SAVE OUR CANCER SERVICES VIGIL

Posted on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 12:57PM by Registered CommenterDeclan Bree | Comments Off

SAVE OUR CANCER SERVICES-NW

JOIN Save Our Cancer Services supporters for a vigil at the Michael D. Higgins Sligo public meeting.

A vigil will be held to coincide with the public meeting being held by Labour Party Presidential candidate Michael D. Higgins on Wednesday 14th Sept. The vigil will assemble at the General Post Office, O’Connell Street at 7.30pm and will remain for the duration of the meeting which is being held in the Glasshouse Hotel.

Reasons for vigil.

1)     To remind the Labour party that the campaign to have cancer services restored to Sligo General Hospital (SGH) remains in place.

2)      To draw attention to the pledges given to the electorate of the North West prior to the general election in which restoration of the cancer services was promised and a commitment to designate SGH as a 9th“centre of excellence”.

3)     To again draw attention to the fact that these pledges were given, not only by the local candidate, but by Eamon Gilmore, leader of the party, both in writing and in person.

4)    To ask Mr Higgins to explain how people can vote for a candidate for President who remains a member of a party that refuses to honour pledges and commitments freely given.

5)    To make it clear that the Save Our Cancer Services-NW campaign intend to engage directly in the Presidential election and urge voters to cast their vote against those candidates who belong to parties that have failed to honour pledges and commitments given.
